Answer the Call

What is Empowering Leadership?

Empowering Leadership is our student leadership program, delivered as “Answer the Call” it builds confident, capable, community-minded young leaders.

It blends leadership skill development, team-based challenges and real-world problem-solving, all through a relational, dignity-preserving approach that schools trust. Students reflect on their personal story, build relational capacity, and develop the mindset to lead with empathy, clarity and purpose.

Four ways to run it

From a full-year formation journey to a single powerful day: Answer the Call adapts to your school.

  • Comprehensive Leadership Program

    6 MONTHS · FULL PROGRAM

A 14-module journey combining teacher-led, fully-resourced classroom lessons, keynotes and rituals embedded across the year.

  • Student Leadership Camp

    2–3 DAYS · IMMERSIVE

We facilitate your camp alongside your staff, embedding the core of Answer the Call into an intensive off-site experience.

  • Bespoke Day & Keynote

    ½–1 DAY · KEYNOTE

An impact session or a complement to your in-house program; ideal for Year 11 & 12 leadership days.

  • Elected Leaders Program

    PREFECTS · ELECTED LEADERS

Built for prefect groups and captains, with a sharper focus on impact, strategy, vision and community building.

Testimonials

  • Thanks Ben Russell for sharing your time, expertise and wisdom with our 2026 Seniors and Formation Team! A really engaging and high energy workshop that kept the students on their toes by challenging their mindset about individual and collective leadership capacity. We also had some additional staff request to join the presentation as they are hearing about the great work you are doing. Thank you and well done on a successful afternoon, believing that we can make a difference with young people and their potential to inspire others through strength of character.

  • Great session. Students were engaged the whole way through and feedback from them has been affirming. A Great starting point for our leadership journey with our Year 11's.

Nathan Burridge - Head of Senior School - St Laurence’s College

  • Hi Ben, Thanks again for tonight. I had over 30 students speak with me this evening about how much they enjoyed your session. Staff feedback has also been excellent. I just wanted to pass this on to reaffirm the valuable contribution you are making with our students.

Duncan Greenbank - Head of Senior School - Matthew Flinders Anglican College

  • Another Leadership Retreat draws to a close at Marymount. Blessed with the best of both worlds; dedicated teachers from our community and external facilitator, Ben Russell from Empowerment Ed.

Emma Hargraves - Assistant Principal - Marymount College

  • Great to have you Ben Russell as our first presenter of the ‘Raise The Bar’ Leadership series we offer our leaders. The appetite for leadership and the talent we have in all year levels at Mount Alvernia College must be nurtured. They are our future! Thanks again.
